When David Wilkenfeld started PromGirl, e-commerce was in its infancy, and buying anything online (let alone a dress) was a foreign concept for many. As the world watched the “dot com” crash of the early 2000s, David saw an opportunity: bring teen special-occasion fashion selections to a new level of choice and sophistication, and do so online.
That’s when PromGirl.com was born. We shipped our first dresses for the 1999 prom season and soon realized that there was a need for women of all ages to have access to the top special-occasion fashions. SimplyDresses.com launched shortly after to bring the same level of choice and sophistication, to women of all ages.
More than a million dresses later, our mission remains the same: give people access to the top special-occasion dresses and offer them online. We are headquartered in New York City with operations in Middletown, Delaware and North Bergen, New Jersey.
